Join Me at the March for Healthy School Food!

I’m SO excited to announce that I’ll be speaking at the March for Healthy School Food here in NYC on June 9th along with Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, the NYC Healthy School Food Alliance, and many more amazing folks! This is a cause that truly means so much to me and I would love to have you join us! Click here to register for free!

Growing up as an obese child was not always easy. My parents didn’t like to cook, so we ordered takeout for nearly every meal. At school, I would eat cafeteria lunches. Naturally, there were relatively no healthy options. I ate what the school offered, which was usually something high in white carbs and/or cheese and unhealthy oils. There were bags of chips, big sandwiches, snack machines, and all sorts of junk food options to choose from. How was a child like me supposed to learn healthy nutrition habits in an environment like this?

Now, having lost 150 pounds and becoming an advocate for improving people’s health, I want to make a positive difference in the lives of NYC children. I want kids to be given fruits and vegetables prepared in ways that entice them, not out of a can or just a whole uncut orange. I want kids to learn about nutrition at a young age, so they have the outlook that healthy food isn’t just “good for you” (with no followup information), but that it can help them to feel great, do better in school, perform better at sports, and SO much more!

On Sunday, June 9th, we march across the Brooklyn Bridge to revamp the school food system. We want to change the food being served, to add more nutrition education to schools, to help kids grow the food themselves, and to increase lunchtimes so kids don’t have to scarf down their food. With 1 in 3 children being overweight or obese, and with children as young as 8 years old on cholesterol- and blood pressure-lowering medication, I believe that we need to make a change. This is not about body image. This is about health.

Thank you SO much to Andrea Strong, the amazing founder of the NYC Healthy School Food Alliance, for having me. I am so excited for this and I hope to see you there! ❤️
